Housing

Housing insecurity is a concern across our country, and Sweet Home is no different.  The challenging housing market and our growing population mean that many people cannot afford market rate rental housing or homeownership. In Sweet Home, many homeowners and renters are spending at least 30% of their income on monthly housing costs.

Although Sweet Home experienced considerable new housing development since 2020, the City historically has seen less new construction on average compared to Linn County and the state. Over a third of existing housing was built between 1940 and 1959, which means increased costs for maintenance and repair.

The City of Sweet Home has taken meaningful steps to make housing more affordable and available to all people in our community. Below are links with more information about these efforts.
